Blue Moon Valley is a renowned photography spot with breathtaking mountain scenery, four picturesque lakes, and a strikingly blue river. The valley features dense trees and a clear, long stream running through it known as the White Water River. The river flows over white marble riverbeds, creating a stunning visual contrast against the surrounding landscape. This natural wonder is fed by pure meltwater from high-altitude ice and snow, making it an unpolluted source of refreshment.
By the time we got here, the sun was setting so didn’t get to see the lovely emerald colour of the lake. I did catch glimpses of it when we went past it when heading up the Jade Dragon Mountain. There is a tram service that runs the bank. So if u dun want to walk the stretch u can take it, which we did since we are trying to see as much before it gets dark.

What an incredible place! It can be difficult to get there, even when you book a tour. However, it's all worth it. The water as blue as on the pictures, and it all looks like from a magazine. We went there early in the morning and had the valley for ourselves. Amazing.

This is part of the Yulong Mountain attraction, located at the foothills. Some people refer to it as a “mini 九寨沟,” and while it’s a beautiful spot, it’s worth noting that some of the water features are manmade rather than natural. The area can get quite crowded with tourists, but it’s still a lovely place to take a stroll and capture some great photos!

A wonderful blue valley with amazing waterfalls shape. This place suited for pre wedding photography.

Stunning! The most beautiful spot at our Yunnan trip! No wonder so many couples come specifically for pre-wedding photos.

The atmosphere is nice, the mountain view is very beautiful. Don't have to think about it's really natural or not, just relax with nature. There are a lot of people when waiting for the shuttle bus to return in the evening.
Kantaphon D — Google review
Visit during noon or early afternoon to see the ponds at their most beautiful colours! Do watch out for the crowds here though - lots of tourists, tour groups and shouting
Yan T — Google review
Unique water formations and color in a valley surrounded by steep high mountains make this an amazing and breathtaking natural location. Only downside was the long lines and crowds, but it's China. It's still a must-see if you are in Lijiang. The shuttle buses ran well and everyone was having a good time. Just don't expect it to look like the tourist brochures.

Black Dragon Pool, also known as Heilongtan, is a significant water source in Lijiang. It originates from the Yulong Snow Mountain and supplies the town through a network of canals and channels. The pool's streams reach every corner of the town, nurturing willow trees and over 350 unique bridges. This tranquil spot offers a refreshing escape from city life, with views of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and a Buddhist temple on site.
Not that far from Lijiang ancient town by walking, 50 yuan for the entrance fee is worth it, good for walking chill and relaxing.. just chilling places..love it 🥰

The Black Dragon lake is part of Lijiang Ancient City. It’s a peaceful park with scenic view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background. Not a must to visit but if you have additional time, take a stroll around this lake is rather therapeutic
The G — Google review
The Black Dragon lake is a beautiful area for a romantic stroll. The views from here of the Jade Dragon Snow mountain are fantastic. A nice place for a calm stroll around the lake and spend some quiet time. There is a temple like structure in the middle of the lake and a little bridge which all together makes it a cool scenic place to sit and look at.

Whenever you travel to Old town of Lijiang so don't miss to visit the Black dragon pool too.

Fee is 50 yuan which I find it kinda expensive. However, kid under 12 and elderly over 60 got free entry. To pay for ticket, you must have WeChat only. Nice garden and many spots to take nice photos. Con is toilet.

One of our itinerary in our trip to lijiang. A lot of people dancing and exercise inside the area.Spring season. Weather quite cold and windy
Anne S — Google review
Before sunset in winter season, the trees were looked warm and earthy. The place wasn’t so crowded that time as tourists likely visit at noon. We walked around, from the gate to small garden where people play games and sit, and we follow the pool and found a spot to take pictures that frame the beauty of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, marble bridge, and the pool in one. Very pretty. If you’re in Lijiang and craving for a place to calm you mind and soul, to see a magical evening as the sun set and time stop just to appreciate your life, come to Black Dragon Pool around 4 PM.

Sights & Landmarks
Yulong Snow Mountain, located in Lijiang City, is a 5A-level national scenic spot and the southernmost Daxue Mountain in the Northern Hemisphere. It is part of the Yulong Mountain Range and boasts the highest peak, Shanzidou, at 5,596 meters. The area covers 960 square kilometers and offers breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks.
Overall, it is well-maintained. There is cable car to bring you all the way up to 4506 altitude. The highest will be at 4680 altitude, and there is staircase for you to go up all the way. Breathtaking view especially if you manage to catch the sunrise on the mountain. Suggest to come over during the morning, as the wind is not strong at this timing. There is also jacket to be rent before you go up and oxygen bottles for you to purchase and bring along due to the thinning air. We spent about half day here including lunch.

Really beautiful, good weather, not too cold. Recommend to visit don’t Skip this place when you come to Yunnan province

Highlight of Lijiang! This mountain is situated in high altitude, please prepare sufficient oxygen canisters. There are internal buses to bring tourists from the carpark area to the cable car area. There are individual vendors selling gloves, hats etc, you can purchase them last minute if you require. The cable car (around 8 mins ride) up to the mountain 4506m, the ascent is rather fast so please be prepared if not you may be hit with the high altitude sickness. For the last 100m to 4680m summit, you will need to climb up the stairs, roughly about 1.5 hours to and fro. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful jade dragon snow mountain here, the altitude was high and you will need their oxygen tank bottles on your way up here , many stairs and walk through busses and cable car and it was steep going up to the mountain there is definitely higher elevation every step taken , nourish and get your body ready before the hike to the top , get their ginseng liquid sold at the base of the mountain with oxygen tanks and keep yourself warm during your hike up here. Along the way you could view the beautiful valley and the yak, just so pitiful his eyes was tearing from the numerous humans sitting on his body for pictures, just so pitiful animals should be set free grazing here. It’s a long drive up here and don’t fall asleep as your body will weaken on your way up here. Overall a beautiful view up here what a journey up to the mountain!

It's an amazing place to be. The view is amazing, and breathtaking. The way up the mountain takes some time. You will need to take buses, walk, bus and cable car and a view waiting lines. I believe we had a less busy day, and o can't imagine how crazy it must be if you go during the weekend or on a public holiday. So plan wisely and go early to avoid peak hours. Keep in mind that you also need to go down, which might take a while. Do you need oxygen? It depends, if you are fit and healthy, you won't need it (most likely). If you are already concerned, take it. But buy in the city, not during the tour.

It’s really beautiful and amazing!! The tour guide said the mountain 24/7 snowfall. Cable car reached to 4506m height and continues treks to 4680m. 12 Mar 25 visited, luckily the weather wasn’t too bad. After the day, the organisation closed coz heavily snow.

A nice place to visit. You can do it by yourself. Just take bus from the bus station 7:30am first bus 101 price 15¥… park ticket entrance 100¥ (bring your passport) and to do the lake. It’s 20¥ extra for transportation. Then you have to pay extra for the cable cars and all the attractions around the park.
Pirates L — Google review
Yulong Snow Mountain is truly a breathtaking experience! The views are absolutely stunning, with snow-capped peaks that tower over the surrounding landscape. The cable car ride up is smooth and offers fantastic panoramic views of the valley below. Once at the top, you can walk around and enjoy the crisp, fresh mountain air, along with the spectacular vistas. The area is well-maintained, and the facilities, including the observation points and walking paths, are all in great condition. It can get chilly, so be sure to pack warm clothing, especially if you’re visiting at higher altitudes. I highly recommend visiting early in the day to avoid the crowds, and don’t forget to check out the nearby villages for a taste of local culture. Overall, Yulong Snow Mountain is a must-see if you’re in Lijiang—it’s a beautiful, tranquil escape that offers both natural beauty and cultural charm!

Lijiang Old Town, with a history of over 800 years, was once a significant political and cultural center. It played a crucial role in trade among various Asian countries. The town's streets are filled with shops offering exquisite handicrafts, reflecting its past prosperity. Navigating the cobblestone streets can be challenging due to their similarity, but venturing away from crowded tourist spots reveals quieter, traditional areas and local-owned restaurants serving authentic cuisine at lower prices.
Ancient city towering over Lijiang.... has its unique character....a wide variety of shops and eateries. But not so convenient for the elderly and physically challenged visitors.

This was my second time visiting to Lijiang Old Town (Dayan Ancient Town) and the first was back in 2001 with my family ,where the locals were still living in those houses here. 20years later, this place had became more vibrant, commercial and crowded. But I do understand that the main income source for some of them are from tourism. However, there are still some areas in the old town which was not crowded and worth exploring. I would suggest to take your time to walk away from the few main streets (around Mufu (木府)and Sanyanjing (三眼井) if you would like to explore the other sides of the old town, as it can get very crowded starting in late evening. The tour buses are usually dropping tourists at the north side of the town, where the Large Water Wheel located. You can try out their local delights such as flower biscuits in one of the shop on Sifang street, called MuLaoYe (木老爷鲜花饼). If you have extra time, can go up to Shizi Mountain to have night view. There are plenty of Inns available for stay in the town, but do mind the cobblestone streets might not be friendly to your luggage, do check with your Inn if they provide concierge service.

Beautiful old town to take a walk. Night time can be very crowded and chaotic, many local tourists clamouring to take photos and pushing. It is much more restful in the daytime/morning. Fewer shops open, but it is much more serene and relaxing to take a walk in. It is beautiful either way. Nighttime it is lit up with spectacular lights. But daytime you see the quiet beauty.

Lijiang's charming old town is a maze of waterways and bridges. In my memories there is also a gallery of local people and their fav activities.

Beautiful ancient town that's so large you can spend days here exploring. Also love that it isn't just a small number of streets packed with tourists. There are plenty of quiet streets which are perfect for photos.

Lijiang Old Town is worthy of its recognition as a UNESCO heritage site. It has been well kept and maintained. It's such a pleasure walking along the ancient cobbled stone streets with their clean and clear canals running alongside. The houses maintain their old charm. Small stone bridges still connect the streets across their canals. Really a great experience.

Beautiful city with many ancient buildings. Its Lijiang Ancient Town is under the world heritage city. Very beautiful and busy when night falls

My favorite place in Lijiang. It’s very lively at night, with lots of souvenir shops, cafes, and tourist activities. It’s listed under the UNESCO World Heritage list. Loving the vibes. Such a fun place to visit in Lijiang.
