I had a near perfect lunch dining experience on April 20, 2025. Food, service, and atmosphere are the best of the best. Do not make the mistake of associating this restaurant with Del Taco found in America. Taco Del Sol serves high quality authentic Mexican food. Trust me, I had a Mexican girlfriend. Their 4.8 star rating is well earned.
When I tasted the horchata I knew I had made the right choice. The guacamole, garlic shrimp burrito, and chipolte chicken tacos were excellent. The beef birra taco was an absolute treat.
Service was impeccable. The waiter noticed we were a little hot and brought us a fan. (AC was present, we were just running hot from the transit). Dishes came out quickly and staff was on top of everything. My understanding is this place can get very busy at night. Please be patient, I believe the staff is sincere and doing their best.
As you can see, the ambiance of the restaurant is amazing. Feel free to take a selfie with their two giant skeletons in the beautiful patio.
Note TDS is located on the 4th floor above The Pasteur Street Cafe. An elevator is available. Feel free to park your motorbike at Pasteur's were there is a security guard.
If you are looking for a cheap Taco Bell experience, this is not the right choice. However, if you want to treat yourself to an authentic Mexican experience, Taco Del Sol is the right place for you. TDS gets my highest recommendation.
The food is good, but as with Mexican food in Vietnam, it's a little overpriced for what it is and what you get.
The cheaper version of the loaded fries is 95K/$3.75. It seemed a little small, but it was well covered with toppings. It looks good and tasted pretty good.
The burritos don't come with cheese, so I had to pay 35K/$1.35 to get cheese in mine. It was pretty minimal cheese. I tried the Al Pastor (190K/$7.45), which is pork. I liked the Tex-Mex rice in it, and it tasted pretty good, but it's not very big.
I got an horchata (80K/$3.15). Considering how cheap they are in the US (maybe they've gone up in price?) and the size they usually are when you get one... it's a little disappointing when you see such a small cup of it. It did taste as it should, and it was good. There was a large cube of ice, which means you get even less of the drink.
I was given one free shot of whatever the guy gave me (I didn't quite hear him), tasted like pomegranate something.
I had gone on Tuesday, completely not thinking about Taco Tuesday, and saw a notice about it after I had already ordered. I'm guessing there's a special price for tacos, and I would have gotten one or two, but I thought I had already spent enough money for what I ordered. On top of that, apparently, burritos were on sale from 3-5 pm (or something), and I was there around 6... so I missed out on both of those.
With the 5% service charge and 8% VAT, my meal was 453,600 ($17.80)... which is a lot more than I initially intended to spend on dinner. I didn't feel very full afterward, either.
We did not have a reservation, but they sat us at the bar, which ended up being, in our opinion, better than being sat at a table. All the staff were friendly, attentive and provided brilliant service. The bar staff were especially fantastic! Looking after us, topping up our drinks regularly (jug of sangria) and and making us feel welcome. The vibe in this place is great, smiles all round and the food was perfect! Best tacos we’ve had for a long time! Highly recommend this place. Don’t miss out while you are in Ho Chi Minh City! Thank you to everyone at Taco del Sol! You’ve made our last night in Vietnam very special!
